3-Day Best of Istanbul  Guided Walking Tour

Meet your private, licensed tour guide at your hotel or cruise port and begin a comprehensive exploration of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems over three well-planned days.

Day 1 | Historic Old City Highlights

Your tour begins with a pick-up from your Istanbul hotel or cruise port, followed by a guided walking tour through the historic heart of Turkey’s largest city.

The first stop is Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s most extraordinary monuments. For centuries, it was the largest church in the world and today still boasts the fourth-largest dome after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, and Florence Cathedral. Dedicated to “Divine Wisdom,” Hagia Sophia remains one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture and reflects Istanbul’s Byzantine and Ottoman heritage.

Continue to the iconic Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque), famous for its elegant blue İznik tiles and impressive symmetry. Once considered the Supreme Imperial Mosque of the Ottoman capital, it is one of Istanbul’s most recognizable landmarks.

Next, visit Topkapi Palace, the former residence of Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years. At its peak, the palace housed around 4,000 people and served as home to 25 sultans. Overlooking the Golden Horn, the palace is surrounded by tranquil gardens. Explore its museums to admire exquisite İznik tiles, imperial collections, and the ornate chambers of the Harem.

Your walk continues at the Hippodrome of Constantinople, originally built in 203 AD by Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. See the remaining monuments from the ancient chariot-racing arena, including the Egyptian Obelisk, Serpentine Column, Column of Constantine, and the elegant German Fountain of Wilhelm II.

End the day with a visit to the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s oldest and largest covered markets. With hundreds of shops selling handmade carpets, ceramics, jewelry, spices, and Turkish coffee, the bazaar offers a lively atmosphere and an authentic cultural experience.

Day 2 | Bazaars, Bosphorus & Modern Istanbul

Begin the day at the Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Market) in the Fatih district. During the Ottoman era, spices and goods imported from Egypt were traded here, giving the market its name. Today, it remains one of Istanbul’s most colorful and aromatic bazaars.

Continue along the Bosphorus, the narrow strait separating Europe and Asia and connecting the Black Sea to the Marmara Sea. Admire magnificent Ottoman palaces, waterfront mansions, and mosques lining the shores. You will also see Rumeli Fortress and Anadolu Fortress, strategically located at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus.

Next, visit Dolmabahce Palace, built in the 19th century as the administrative center of the late Ottoman Empire and residence of its final sultans. The palace was constructed by filling a small bay along the Bosphorus—hence its name, derived from the Turkish words dolma (“filled”) and bahçe (“garden”). Explore its lavish interiors, combining Ottoman and European architectural styles.

Conclude the day with a walk along Istiklal Street, one of Istanbul’s liveliest avenues, filled with shops, cafés, restaurants, and historic buildings. From here, enjoy a scenic walk toward the Tünel and Galata Tower area.

Day 3 | Ottoman Heritage & Golden Horn

Begin your final day with a visit to the magnificent Suleymaniye Mosque, an important historical and cultural symbol for the Turkish people. Designed by Mimar Sinan, the greatest Ottoman architect, this masterpiece reflects the height of Ottoman architectural achievement.

Continue to the colorful Fener and Balat districts, once home to Istanbul’s Greek Orthodox and Jewish communities. Today, these neighborhoods are known for their charming, timeworn houses, hidden churches, synagogues, and vibrant street life. In recent years, the area has become popular with new cafés, art spaces, and boutique shops.

Visit St. Stephen’s Church (Iron Church), the Bulgarian Orthodox Church of St. Stephen, located along the Golden Horn in Balat. Remarkably made entirely of cast iron, the church was manufactured in Vienna, transported via the Danube on 100 barges, and assembled in Istanbul in 1871.

End your tour at Pierre Loti Hill, a popular leisure spot offering panoramic views over the Golden Horn. Named after the famous French novelist and traveler who spent much time in Istanbul, the hill is accessible by a scenic cable car ride and features a charming open-air café—an ideal place to relax and reflect on your journey.

At the end of Day 3, your guide will accompany you back to your hotel or port, concluding an unforgettable Istanbul experience.
